Day In The Life

The Sr. Manager, Strategy & Financial Planning, Essentials will play a critical role in the launch of a new business providing everyday goods to customers. This individual will play an integral part in executing the Essentials strategy to deliver its P&L, including providing financial information to make key decisions to drive financial performance and long-term strategy of the Essentials business. This individual will also act as lead for high priority strategic initiatives for the business unit. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in highly analytical finance and strategy roles. The candidate will have a strong strategic orientation, excellent communication skills, and superior analytical skills. They will also need to be a strong collaborator and influencer with all levels of the organization, including executives. This individual thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail oriented and brings an entrepreneurial work style. This role reports directly to the Chief Business Officer, Essentials

What You Will Do:

  • Business unit financial planning and analysis deliverables, including period end reports, forecasts, and budget submissions. Updates the monthly sales and gross profit forecast and reviews it with Finance

  •  All operational finance initiatives, working with Merchandising, Marketing, and Replenishment teams to hit financial targets

  • Performing financial analysis that identifies and evaluates opportunities to enhance sales & profit for the Essentials business

  •  Providing insights and recommendations for decisions, through hypotheses, research, facilitated discussion and data analysis

  • Communicating Essentials financial, strategic, and business results to core team, leadership team, and Executive Team as required

  • Reviews advertising and marketing plans. Participates in reviewing advertising effectiveness analysis. Work with marketing team on promotions/event forecasts and profitability

  • Key liaison between Essentials and the Finance team. Provides insight into financial forecasts of the business unit data and reporting.

  • Acts as strategy and planning lead for cross-functional projects such as launch of store,
    geographical expansion of next day delivery, shipping threshold changes 

  • Forecasts and tracks success of newly implemented projects/initiatives, opportunity areas and potential liabilities.

  • Additional responsibilities as required


What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in Finance or Commerce

  • 5-7 years of experience in strategy consulting or finance

  •  Strong business and financial analysis skills; ability to think critically in order to drive business decisions with the use of data and analytics

  • Highly collaborative, partnering cross-functionally to drive strong analysis and influence business

  • Strong retail math acumen, including elements of markup, margin planning, inventory productivity measures (WOS, Turn, GMROI), master's understanding of budget frames

  • Strong communication and presentation skills; extensive exposure to senior management

  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills

  • Ability to influence decision making across multiple levels and functions of an organization to drive results

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail

  • Adaptability to change and comfort with new, ad hoc analysis

  • Goal oriented: ability to stay focused on creating winning results

  • Experience with eCommerce retail a strong nice to have
