Day In The Life:

The Marketplace Business Development Manager will be accountable for establishing and growing the Marketplace assortment throughout seller acquisition with a focus to grow the overall business to deliver sales plan. This position will report to the Director of Marketplace Business Development.

What You Will Do:

  • Create and execute on the Marketplace acquisition strategy including brand curation, market research, vetting brands, identifying assortment opportunities, etc.
  • Understand the competitive landscape and industry data that will help shape the Marketplace seller matrix including having a very solid understanding of the retail  industry, trends and assortment analysis to identify and target the right opportunities.
  • Establish seller targets and stretch goals by large, medium and small businesses with a strong understanding of sku productivity and assortment planning in order to achieve total Marketplace sales targets.
  • Establish relationships with key strategic partners to pitch, negotiate and acquire sellers that will extrapolate Marketplace growth and drive the overall business.
  • Generate seller leads through relevant acquisition channels, third party partners, organic research and by partnering with marketing on B2B campaigns as a growth tactic.
  • Understand the current brand/category matrix within designated categories to strategically grow the Marketplace assortment based on trends and business strategy in partnership with lead merchants from the buying teams. Build relationships with buying teams in understanding each areas business strategy and how Marketplace can help to support and drive profitable growth.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline, correctly prioritizing accounts based on their overall potential for the business.
  • Contact and correctly screen potential sellers by evaluating their business maturity, catalog relevancy and Marketplace-selling capabilities.
  • Contribute to the creation, maintenance and negotiation of seller contracts and guides.
  • Possess solid sales tactics and pitch by developing fail-proof negotiation strategies to convert any lead.
  • Have thorough understanding of Marketplace business model and onboarding processes to ensure sellers are aware of expectations and are prepared to operate.
  • Leverage analytics such as sales reporting, site metrics, null search reports, best sellers etc. and utilize that data in partnership with the marketing insights team and merchant teams on identifying new opportunities for Marketplace.

What You Will Need:

  • BA/BS degree or relevant sales experience
  • 3+ years of prior experience in sales or business development
  • Excellent communication, sales and negotiation skills
  • Ability to deliver under pressure, with little guidance from management
  • Proactive, self-motivated and goal-oriented
  • Previous e-commerce/Marketplace experience is a plus
