Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) are woven throughout HBC and are fundamental to our strategy and vision as a leader in the retail and fashion industry. Across Canada, we actively nurture a work culture that values the diverse voices and experiences of all our Associates, while reflecting on our opportunities to make a positive social impact. This is particularly important as we reflect on our past and take actionable steps towards reconciliation and inclusion.
We are on a journey to purposely embed inclusion into the design of our business and culture of workplace. Through the allyship and leadership of all our Associates, we are listening, sharing our stories, taking action and thinking differently to nurture a community where everyone feels safe, respected and belong.
Throughout the year we come together to celebrate our differences and embrace the beautiful intersectionalities that make us who we are. Here are some photos of past events where our community at The Bay came together to make a positive difference and build lasting connections.
All of our Associates help advance our shared values of respect and belonging as Inclusion Influencers by championing allyship behaviours and engaging in ongoing DE&I initiatives, helping to promote a One Team workplace where everyone can be their authentic self. Our employee resource groups (ERGs) play a vital role of bringing our DE&I framework to life through inclusive leadership, empowerment, meaningful and sometimes difficult conversations, inspiring initiatives and community outreach.
All of our ERGs are led by our Associates and championed by executive sponsors, who actively bring DE&I opportunities and concerns to the attention of our DE&I Council to take action and drive change.
Today, The Bay recognizes and acknowledges its role in the colonization of Canada. As part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, we are actively engaging with Indigenous communities through the guidance of an Indigenous advisory firm, as we build a fulsome Truth and Reconciliation framework for our organization. We remain committed to reconciliation, including honouring the important roles many First Nations, Métis and Inuit played in our success as a company.
Every Associate shares the responsibility to learn about Indigenous history, and the injustice and challenges Indigenous Peoples have faced in the past and that continue today. We encourage you to take an active role in our Reconciliation journey.
